Behind Every Statistic Is a Story—and a Family

It’s easy to feel like statistics and policy don’t matter when your family is struggling just to stay in touch with someone who’s incarcerated. But tools like the Jail Data Initiative and Prison Policy Initiative are changing that.

These organizations help us see the bigger picture while staying grounded in personal stories. Why are phone calls so expensive? Why does a jail sentence in one county look so different from another? What can we do to make reentry more successful for returning citizens? The answers are complex—but thanks to these initiatives, they’re more visible than ever. And that gives us hope.

The families and friends who stay with us at the Family Reconciliation center are committed to keeping a connection with their loved ones. Our job is to help them learn from one another and stay in a friendly, safe environment when they come to Nashville to visit one of the prisons. We are grateful to all of our supporters who help us make this happen.
